History

bloodsugar are a rock band formed by students at Edinburgh University in the late 1980s. As students, we had plenty of time for composing, rehearsing and gigging and built up a small but dedicated following playing in and around Edinburgh at venues such as Preservation Hall and Negociants (both of which disappeared many years ago!)

We then had the misfortune of graduating. Families and careers interrupted the planned rise to rock stardom. The band never broke up and over the next 30 years managed a few select gigs in between family holidays and released three albums: hypomusic, Blue Sky Thinking and Perfect Colours which are all available on Spotify and other digital platforms.

With most of the kids grown up, the band are now based in Linlithgow where Stewart Box is a local GP and his brother Andy runs a recording studio www.webnode.boxinaband.com  (which has supported several local acts including the Linlithgow High School band Altinak.) Andy and Stewart share guitar and bass duties and the line up is completed by Dave Watkins on vocals, Fraser Wells on drums and Mark Vettraino on keyboard.

In keeping with many other bands, we have been busy during lockdown and are planning to release two new albums: Join The Lines and Wheel of Fortune. Our aim with these albums was to write and perform songs with a wide variety of sounds and styles but with a firm grounding in melodic rock and pop. With this explosion of creativity, the band are hoping to secure some local gigs to try out their new material on a new generation.
